For Community Members:

In 2021, the HCEF board prioritized the newly formed ‘Grow Our Own’ Educational Assistance Fund to support the diversification of the HCPS teaching workforce.

HCPS’ implementation of the Teaching as a Profession course (TaaP), in conjunction with the community coalition’s “Grow Our Own” initiative, represents the joint effort to recruit and retain a workforce that better represents the county’s student populations.

The coalition includes Blue Ridge Community College, Henderson County NAACP, El Centro- Latino Advocacy Center, several local churches, and private citizens working in cooperation with the Henderson County Public Schools and the Henderson County Education Foundation.

Individuals or organizations may make a tax-deductible charitable contribution to the Henderson County Education Foundation in the name of “Grow Our Own” fund. Mail contributions to  414 4th Ave W. Hendersonville, NC 28739 or donate online at hcefnc.org.

Our Foundation administers over 40 scholarships for graduates of Henderson County’s public high schools, totaling about $125,000 each year. Each scholarship has a specific purpose and tailored eligibility criteria.

The scholarships are managed by the Foundation’s Program Committee and staff, with the involvement of high school counselors, teachers, and scholarship review committees, including members of the Henderson County community.
