Scholarship Applications

Scholarship applications are accepted annually from December through February via our online portal. Each submission is carefully reviewed by our Scholarship Committee, and selected recipients are notified in the spring. Awards are formally presented and celebrated at each High Schools’ award ceremony.

Application Instructions

1

Log on to HCEF online Scholarship Portal

New Users: Click “Create New Account” to register.

Returning Users: Log in with your registered email and password. If your account is inactive, email scholarships@hcefnc.org to reactivate it. If you have more than one email address, remember which email address you used to create the account, you will use it to log into the system each time you visit. Please do not create a second user account.

Need Help? After checking the website, email scholarships@hcefnc.org with any questions.

2

To begin your scholarship application, click the house icon in the blue bar to access the Applicant Dashboard and select “Apply.”

3

Start by completing the Eligibility Quiz to see which scholarships you may qualify for. After clicking “Submit Eligibility,” a list of eligible scholarships will appear—then click “Continue” to begin applying.

Please note: once submitted, quiz answers cannot be changed.  Also, you are responsible for reviewing the requirements of each scholarship to determine final eligibility as there may be additional specific requirements beyond the questions in the eligibility quiz.

If you believe there was an error in your eligibility results, contact scholarships@hcefnc.org for assistance.

4

To begin an application, click on the blue “Apply” button on the right.

You can save your application at any point and come back later to finish it. You should save your application frequently or copy the questions into a word document and type your responses. You may copy your responses onto the application.  The system will auto save only every 20 minutes.

5

Click “Submit Application” when your portion of the application is complete.

IMPORTANT: Once you have clicked on “Submit Application” your application will no longer be available for editing.

A Few Things to Note:

  • All Foundation emails via the Foundant system will come from administrator@grantinterface.com—be sure to add it to your safe senders list to avoid missing important messages.
  • If you’re applying to multiple scholarships, you can use the “Copy Previous Answers” feature to save time. This tool lets you transfer responses from one application to another by selecting matching questions. Keep in mind: it won’t overwrite or add to answers you’ve already entered. A short video is available to explain how it works.
  • When using copied responses in scholarship applications, you’re responsible for making sure each answer fits the specific requirements. Also, you still need to write and send a new letter of recommendation for each application; it won’t copy automatically.
  • Some scholarship applications need input from parents or counselors. It’s your job to ensure they receive the notification emails—sent from administrator@grantinterface.com—so let them know ahead of time to expect it.
  • From the Applicant Dashboard, you can access and continue your in-progress applications and monitor the status of third-party responses. Make sure to follow up with third parties if their submissions aren’t completed before the application deadline.

Online System Tips

  • You’ll be logged out after 90 minutes of inactivity; a warning appears at 80 minutes. Simply typing without saving doesn’t count as activity. You must hit “Save”.
  • The character counter includes spaces, not just letters and punctuation.
  • You must answer all required questions to submit your application—missing even one will block submission.
