The Henderson County Education Foundation (HCEF) announces the opening of their Scholarship portal for 2021 graduates on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. HCEF offers 26 scholarships totaling over $45,000 available to graduating seniors in Henderson County.
The generosity of the community has made each of these scholarship opportunities possible. HCEF scholarships were established in memory of past impactful community members or from community organizations wanting to give back and nurture the next generation.
As the first recipient of the Kathleen Leckie Memorial Scholarship, Melissa Espinoza-Rojo, graduate of North Henderson High School, is grateful for the award. “I felt very honored! It was very helpful to pay my tuition and fees, books/supplies, housing and meal plan.” Ms. Espinoza-Rojo is studying nursing and U.S. Latinx Studies at Western Carolina University. The scholarship was established in memory of Ms. Kathleen Leckie, a beloved teacher at Clear Creek Elementary, who passed away unexpectedly in January 2020.
