Malvern S. West

Malvern WestPrincipal of Etowah Elementary School for 26 years, from 1971 to 1997, Malvern West gave up a central office job to take the Etowah post. Since retirement, he has served seven years on the Education Foundation board, leading several committees.

James “Coach” Pardue

James_PardueA coaching legend, “Coach” Pardue coached, taught and served as an assistant principal at HHS for 33 years, beginning in 1957. He coached the Bearcats to win the 1964 state baseball and 1972 state basketball titles.

Thomas E. Orr

Tom_OrrTom Orr taught for 32 years at HHS, earning the regional Teacher of the Year Award for the mountains twice, in 1975 and 1986. After retiring as a teacher, he served as County School Board chairman from 1994 to 1996, headed the Foundation from 2002 to 2004 and started the Hall of Fame in 2002.

Hilda T. Olson

Hilda_OlsonRetiring in 1985 after 40 years as a teacher and school administrator, Hilda Olson coordinated elementary education and supervised federal programs for students with special needs for the Hendersonville City Schools from 1974 until her retirement and served from 1988 to 1994 on the City School Board.

Dorothy Marlow

Dot_MarlowA retired First Union Bank vice president and the wife of the late Glenn C. Marlow, former county schools superintendent, Dorothy Marlow worked for six decades to obtain funding for educational organizations, helped her husband start the Historic Johnson Farm heritage learning center and helped form the Foundation itself in 1986.

Robert Hugh Lockaby

Hugh_LockabyBetween 1957 and 1971, Robert Lockaby served as Hendersonville High School principal. During his tenure, he led the school to honors in academics, arts, and athletics. He started the school’s track and field program, the football and baseball teams won state titles and HHS earned accreditation in 1963-64 from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Tommy L. Wilson

Tommy_WilsonA former principal and coach at HHS, Wilson taught at West Henderson from 1961 to 1969, moved to Asheville High for a year and then taught at HHS for two more years. In 1973, he became the school’s principal, a post he held for 18 years, during which time the school was named as one of the state’s top five high schools.
