Virginia Lee Drake
An active volunteer in Henderson County schools and the only woman on the county School Board for 18 years, Virginia Drake was a strong proponent of quality education. She also served as trustee of Blue Ridge Community College and was director of the BRCC Educational Foundation. In 1986 she was founding director of the Henderson County Education Foundation. She once said her greatest reward was to “see a child’s smile and glow on his or her face, and realize that he or she had been broadened and enriched by learning.”
