Julia started her 39 years in Henderson County schools at Flat Rock High School in 1950. She directed student dramas, advised the school staff and served as the senior class advisor. She earned several NDEA fellowships. She inspired students to pursue higher education, to love writing, and appreciate poetry and encouraged students to write about personal experiences and memories, developing their self-confidence.
